Adding a new Internet Radio Station in Linux

Adding a new Internet Radio Station in RhythmBox

To add a new radio station in Rhythmbox, simply choose:

Music → New Internet Radio Station

A new dialogue will open up, asking for the URL of the radio station:

Open up your browser and search for the radio station that you wish to add. You may like to try looking on http://www.internet-radio.org.uk/ for suitable independent candidates or http://iplayerhelp.external.bbc.co.uk/help/playing_radio_progs/local_radio_streams for BBC stations.

Copy the URL of the desired station and paste it into the Rhythmbox dialogue box and click “Add” :

The station will then be added and can be selected and run as per the built in stations.


Adding a new Internet Radio Station in Banshee

To add a new radio station in Banshee, simply click on the "Radio" entry in the left hand navbar:

Any radio stations you have previous defined will be listed in the right hand pane. Right click the "Radio" entry in the left hand navbar then choose "New Station":

A new dialogue will open up, asking for the URL of the radio station:

Open up your browser and search for the radio station that you wish to add. You may like to try looking on http://www.internet-radio.org.uk/ for suitable independent candidates or http://iplayerhelp.external.bbc.co.uk/help/playing_radio_progs/local_radio_streams for BBC stations.

Copy the URL (-e.g. "http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/wm_asx/aod/radio4.asx") of the desired station and paste it into the "Stream URL" field of the Banshee dialogue box. Complete the remaining fields then click the “Save” button :
