Finding Software with the Ubuntu Software Centre

To launch Ubuntu's Software Centre select:

Applications → Ubuntu Software Centre

For Unity users, just click the Software Centre icon in the Launcher:

A window will open up. In the left hand pane, there are three main sections:

Get Software : these are the available applications

Installed Software : these are the applications you have installed

History : this is the log of what was installed and when

This search is .. limited, but you can use it to narrow the number of applications shown

In the right hand pane, you have (at the top), the search facility. This search is pretty limited, but you can use it to narrow the number of applications shown:

Under the search box, you'll see the categories of application available: click on any of these to show the sub categories in that category. The following example shows the applications in the “Graphics” sub-category:

Click on the sub-category to list all the applications under that area. The following example shows the applications in the “3D” sub-category:
